Meet Charlotte the Perching Detective!

A Storytime Like No Other

Get ready for a very special Saturday — author Kristine Sheppard is visiting The Wandering Lantern with her book Charlotte the Perching Detective, and she's bringing the real Charlotte along!

Charlotte is a golden Cocker Spaniel who has trained to do incredible things, including scent work — where she sniffs out hidden objects like a true detective. Come see her in action and help put her skills to the test.

What to Expect

• Meet Charlotte — Kristine introduces Charlotte, shows off her training, and explains how she learned to "perch" and do scent work
• Storytime — Kristine reads Charlotte the Perching Detective, the story of how Charlotte learned to follow her nose
• Live demo — Kid volunteers hide scent tins around the store for Charlotte to find
• Your turn! — Kids get to give Charlotte treats and try to get her to do her tricks: paw, roll over, spin, and jump

Kristine will have copies of Charlotte the Perching Detective available to purchase, plus coloring books, bookmarks, sticker sheets, dog-shaped crayons, and a card game for dog trick training. Free coloring sheets for all kids!

This is a free drop-in event during our regular Saturday Story Time slot. All ages welcome — the littlest ones will love Charlotte, and the older kids will be amazed by her detective skills.
